What is music publishing?
Most people picture an enormous printing press and immeasurable piles of sheet music. While this was not far from the truth about a hundred years ago, the business of publishing music has evolved to mean much more. Publishers look for music to place in recordings, television, movies, video games, ring tones and more. Check out these links for our friends at ASCAP, BMI, SESAC.
How can I get my music published with you?
If we like your music and think we can work with it we’ll approach you with an offer. (See “Should I submit my demo” below.)
Why do I need a music publisher? Can't I just publish my own music?
Because most songwriters are too busy composing and often the administrative aspects of music publishing are ignored. A music publisher can manage your music, negotiate licenses and collect royalties for the use of your music.
What’s special about Cat 5?
We’re part of a highly respected university music business program and are accountable to our advisors and our institution. All of our dealings are strictly professional, ethical and transparent. We’re also young and highly motivated to succeed. We work very hard on behalf of our writers.
Should I submit my demo?
While we (and all publishers for that matter) are always looking for new material, we are highly selective and only pursue projects we feel we can work with. If you’re interested in presenting your material to us, please send an e-mail with a link to your music to creative@cat5music.com. No attachments please, they won’t get past the spam filter. You can also send us a CD to:
